About Uniondale

Uniondale is a hamlet and census-designated place located in Nassau County in the Town of Hempstead, Long Island, New York. The hamlet grew after the opening of Mitchell Field, a site now occupied by Hofstra University and Nassau Community College. The former and merged names include Turtle Hook because of the turtles that crawled out of nearby ponds to sun themselves on a bend or hook between the plains and Roosevelt. Uniondale is the home of the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League that play at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball is also looking into having a team in Uniondale. Aside from hosting the game, the coliseum also hosts many concerts and other big events, the color scheme makes the place look darker than it is, and seating is cramped and not the most comfortable, although many of Long Island’s largest events take place at Nassau Coliseum.
