Long Island’s New Retail RoundupSpring flowers are not the only signs of fresh beginnings here on Long Island.  Many well-known retailers have recently opened or plan to open new locations across the island this year breathing new life into Long Island’s retail market.

These openings are significant as they speak to our thriving economy.  Here is Long Island’s new retail roundup.

Recent & Future Retail Openings on Long Island

Dick’s Sporting Goods

Opened in Q4 2015 at the Gateway Center II in Patchogue, on Sunrise Highway.  This is the 38th Long Island location for this well-known retailer.

The FRYE Company

Beginning as a small shop in Massachusetts, The FRYE Company opened its first Long Island location at the Roosevelt Field Mall in a 3,000 SF space.

Commercial Real Estate Blog

Kate Spade

At 2,000 SF, this store is the fashion retailer’s fourth location on Long Island and is located at the Roosevelt Field Mall.

Lululemon
The Canadian athletic apparel retailer was a welcomed addition to Riverhead’s Tanger Outlets in Q4 of 2015.

Macy’s Backstage

Two Macy’s Backstage locations opened in Q4 of 2015; one in the Melville Mall in Huntington and one in the Lake Success Shopping Center in New Hyde Park.  With each of these stores nearing 35,000 SF.

Neiman Marcus

Welcome to Long Island, Neiman Marcus!  106,000 SF, located at the Roosevelt Field’s new “luxury wing,” the first Neiman Marcus on Long Island opened February of 2016.

Starbucks

Occupying a 2,000 SF space, a new Starbucks will be the first retail store to open at a new mixed-use development in Farmingdale.  Newly built near the Farmingdale Long Island Rail Road station, three freshly constructed buildings will add over 200 rental apartments and retail space to the village downtown.

Stew Leonard’s

Located in Kimco Realty Corp’s Airport Plaza shopping center in Farmingdale, Stew Leonard’s opened in January 2016. The new 60,000 square-foot store, is providing up to 400 jobs, many of them full-time, to our community.

Target

Set to open two small-format stores on Long Island by October, these plans include one 24,500 SF store and one 46,000 SF store. These stores are drastically smaller than the chain’s typical 140,000 SF stores and will feature a smaller merchandise selection than the chain’s full-size stores.  They are scheduled to open in Elmont and Freeport.
